​What is a long crack? According to the Repair of Laminated Automotive Glass Standard, it is any windshield crack longer than 6 inches in length.

What long cracks are repairable? According to the ROLAGS standard, the long crack or crack(s) cannot be longer then 14 inches in length and damage cannot have more then three long cracks from a single impact point. Why are long cracks so much more expensive then chips or small crack repairs? Long cracks are much more complex! Due to the complexity of the repairs they take a significantly longer time to complete (1 to 3 hours). They also take additional specialty tools and use more specialty resin and additional supplies than a typical small crack or chip.

Why is it so hard to find glass repair companies that perform long crack repair? The short answer, it is much more profitable for companies to repair small cracks and chips that only take 30 minutes of labor, or replace a windshield taking 1 hour of labor. ​Visibility and appearance, can be both a pro and a con. Visibility improves 50% to 70%. That is a huge improvement! It is important to note due to the complexity of long crack repairs they will remain visible after the repair. They will typically look more like a long fine scratch after the repair. We use specialty crack repair resins that include pigments to help to improve visibility and hide the crack significantly. However long cracks will never disappear completely.

Usually not covered by insurance. Currently we do not accept insurance. However replacement is usually the only option available when using insurance.

Not all cracks are repairable, depending on how many legs, the length of the crack, how long the crack has been open to the elements, the exact placement on the windshield, how many edges it touches and a multitude of other factors can determine if the crack is repairable.
